The New York Giants were involved in a blockbuster trade during the offseason when they sent three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals for the No. 10 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The move was one of the first under head coach John Harbaugh, who reports to team ownership rather than general manager Joe Schoen, putting him on even footing for decisions like the Lawrence one.
But, maybe Harbaugh and the Giants aren't done yet. Is it possible they have another big trade up their sleeves?
Giants edge-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux could bring this franchise some leverage in trade talks. Thibodeaux was the No. 5 pick in the 2022 draft and is entering his fifth-year option. The Giants already have edge rushers in Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, so they feasibly have room to trade him.
In an ESPN feature about potential trades still pending, Jordan Raanan names four teams as potential landing spots for the player: the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams. All of those teams have a need left to fill in the edge-rusher position, and Thibodeaux would get the job done.
But, in the end, Raanan says that he believes no offer will get the deal done. The problem is that no matter what they get for the Thibodeaux, they'll be a worse team without him this season.
"None of these offers is what the Giants are looking for at the moment," Raanan states in the piece. "It would have to be a deal that absolutely blows them away."
It makes sense that the Giants will stick with Thibodeaux, and this could be a breakout year for him. According to a report, Thibodeaux has even impressed the new Giants staff, including Harbaugh, this offseason and is undervalued for what he can bring to the Giants or any franchise, so trading him away for the wrong deal would be a huge mistake.
