A fan just couldn't wait until after Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals to take a selfie with San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs hosted the New York Knicks at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday night. With San Antonio trailing 92-86 and 6:28 remaining in the fourth quarter, a fan rushed onto the court with a cellphone in his right hand, stopping in front of the three-point line near Wembanyama.

Security quickly escorted him off the court. The incident left Wembanyama puzzled.

"I've never been in that situation," Wembanyama said in a postgame news conference. "I didn't know how to act, it really surprised me, almost as much as that time [when] a bat crossed the court."

Wembanyama was referring to when a bat flew onto the court before a January 2024 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. San Antonio's mascot, The Coyote, donned a Batman suit and subsequently captured it with a net.

Wednesday's episode disrupted the game. Spurs guard Dylan Harper lost control of the ball while Knicks guard Mikal Bridges defended him. After a discussion, the officiating crew called for a jump ball. Wembanyama won the ensuing tip.

"I don't think it was an event at all," Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson told the media. "I thought security got him out of here. I think everybody moved on to the next play."

The frazzled Spurs, however, never regained momentum, losing 105-95. Wembanyama struggled, scoring 26 points but shooting 6-of-21 from the field.

"I was bad tonight," he said. "It's not more complicated than that. ...I think we let that one go."

The Spurs will aim to rebound in Game 2 at home on Friday (ABC, 8:30 p.m. ET). They shouldn't need to worry about that fan interrupting the game again.

Per NBA Fan Code of Conduct, fans who run onto the court during games are subject to ejection, a potential lifetime ban from arenas and the possibility of criminal charges. It remains unknown if the spectator was arrested on Wednesday.
