The NBA Finals always bring a heated matchup, and Game 3 was no exception. On Monday, the New York Knicks headed into the event 2-0 and looking to get close to a sweep, but the San Antonio Spurs prevailed with a 115-111 victory. Now, the Knicks are still ahead in the series, but it's 2-1 and could go either way.
One hot moment during the game happened in the first quarter, when Spurs star Victor Wembanyama appeared to push Knicks standout Jalen Brunson in the back of the neck and head.
The crowd and those watching at home saw the incident, but referees didn't catch it and didn't call a foul. Brunson got up in Wembanyama's face, but the incident went unnoticed by officials.
In his postgame press conference, Brunson was asked about the show and said, "Whatever you saw is what you saw."
On Tuesday, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that NBA head of officiating Monty McCutchen says the play is under review by the NBA.
"NBA head of officiating Monty McCutchen, appearing now on ESPN, acknowledges that a foul was missed on Victor Wembanyama's first-quarter shove of Jalen Brunson and says the league's review is still ongoing regarding whether the play will be deemed a retroactive flagrant foul," Stein reported on X.
He added: "The NBA, as is customary, will today review Victor Wembanyama's first-quarter foul on Jalen Brunson to determine whether any additional penalties (such as a retroactive flagrant foul) are assessed."
Either way, it's certainly upped the rivalry between two of the biggest stars in the NBA right now: Brunson and Wembanyama. Game 4 is set for Wednesday back at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
