Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears are coming off a Cinderella comeback season in 2025-26, which saw the Windy City win the NFC North and get to the postseason. Even though it was a magical season, the Bears didn't go all the way, so Johnson is making moves during the offseason to better position the team for the future.
Now, the Bears are being encouraged to add a former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers star to their lineup. He's currently sitting in free agency, still waiting for a home.
That player is cornerback Trevon Diggs. In a feature about the best remaining free agents under the age of 30 in Bleacher Report, Kristopher Knox puts Diggs on the tally and names the Bears or theĀ Washington Commanders.
Former Dallas Cowboys secondary coach Al Harris is the defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator with the Chicago Bears, so Diggs played with him during his time in Dallas, and the Bears could use cornerback depth, so this move would make sense.
"Diggs is a former All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler at a premium position," Knox states in the piece. "He'll only turn 28 in September, and if he can stay healthy, he can again become a reliable long-term starter and an impact defender.
"Diggs should interest most teams looking for cornerback help, but given his risk-reward play style, he'd make the most sense in a familiar system."
It's certainly the case that Diggs has plenty of juice left and could bring some much-needed depth at corner. Depending on his asking price, it's a deal that realistically could happen before September.
