It's hard to imagine that San Francisco Giants 1B/DH Bryce Eldridge was envisioning he'd have a chance to make MLB history when his team trailed 9-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Baseball is as unpredictable as any sport, though, and Eldridge etched his name in the history books just one inning later.
Eldridge stepped into box with the bases loaded, nobody out and his team trailing 10-7 with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Representing the winning run in what once seemed like an improbable comeback, Eldridge sent the afternoon crowd in San Francisco into a frenzy with his swing.
Eldridge hit a high, majestic home run into the right field standing room area and securing an improbable 11-10 comeback win for San Francisco against the Washington Nationals.
With the swing, the 21-year-old Eldridge became the youngest player in MLB history to launch a walk-off grand slam. He passed the previous youngest player in Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente.

After a slow start to his career both at the end of last season and beginning of this season, Eldridge has quickly turned it on in the last three weeks.
Over his last 15 games, Eldridge has posted a slash line of .408/483/.694, good for a 1.177 OPS with two home runs, six RBI and eight doubles.
The 28-41 Giants have been heavily involved in the star player sweepstakes in the past several years, as they've acquired Matt Chapman, Willy Adames and Rafael Devers just to name a few.
Eldridge, though, is just 21 years old and appears to be the type of player to build a franchise around. In what has been a disappointing first year under Tony Vitello, the emergence of Eldridge has to be a positive for Giants fans looking toward the future of the organization.
