The Dallas Cowboys made more moves than usual during the offseason, which was a welcome change for Jerry Jones and company. The team has a totally new defense going into the 2026 season after snagging edge-rusher Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers and drafting Ohio State safety Caleb Downs as the 11th overall pick.
Those are just a few of those changes, and there's little doubt that the weaknesses this team had in 2025 will at least improve next season.
While the Cowboys got a crop of new players in the fold, they also have some returning players who could simply explode this season. One of those players is linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles has a feature out picking just one under-the-radar breakout star candidate for every NFC team going into 2026. As for the Cowboys, he picks Overshown.
"Amid a dismal 2024 season for Dallas, DeMarvion Overshown was a bright spot, registering 90 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks and a pick-six in just 13 games," he states in the feature.
Overshown was poised to be a huge talent but missed all of his rookie season with a torn ACL in 2023. He suffered another season-ending injury in 2024, which is why he was limited to 13 games. He came back for just six games in 2025, but this could be his year.
"Perhaps the injuries have taken too much of a toll, but a year-plus removed from the injury, he can be the athletic, talented playmaker the Cowboys desperately need at linebacker," Pereles says.
Overshown is the kind of understated and unassuming player who could absolutely thrive in 2026. It'll be interesting to see how he does fully healthy and ready to prove himself to the NFL.
