Texas lands DL with NFL potential over Ohio State, Georgia and Oregon

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns just picked up one of the biggest recruiting wins of their 2027 cycle.

The competition was fierce. The Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs and Oregon Ducks were also in the running for this recruit. When we're talking about perennial contenders and college football bluebloods, a recruiting battle between Texas, OSU, Georgia and Oregon is about as big as it gets.

According to the rankings, this was also a big win for Texas.

The commitment came on Thursday from defensive lineman Kasai Currie, the No. 2 defensive line recruit in the country, according to 247Sports.

"For the next three to four years, I'll be taking my talents to the University of Texas," Currie said live, according to 247Sports.

Currie is a big dude for a rising senior in high school. He's nearly 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, and he's already getting talked about as a player who could ultimately end up in the NFL based on that size alone.

"Currie has an NFL body type up front. He is still working to find more consistency in his overall game. When he's at his best, Currie is a monster space eater with the ability to disrupt backfields," wrote 247Sports recruiting analyst Mike Roach.

The big defensive lineman from Chatsworth, Calif., took an official visit to Austin on June 5 that really won him over. He had visited Texas before, though, and there's just something about life in Austin that appealed to him.

"Man, it feels just like home," Currie told 247Sports after an official visit in March. "There is nothing like it, and just connecting with the coaches again was great. I love everyone in the building. Whenever I'm meeting with anyone in there, we're laughing or talking about ball, so I feel like I've got very good bonds with all of them."

This is a massive commitment for Sarkisian and the Longhorns. Currie is ranked as the No. 37 player in the country regardless of position, according to 247SPorts.

He joins a Texas class that's now at 13 commitments.
