The New York Knicks' Game 4 victory had a bittersweet ending. Celebrations turned dangerous when some fans took things to a whole new level.
Some people appeared to throw eggs at San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. While no one got hurt, it was a dangerous and avoidable precedent. That's simply unjustifiable.
Nevertheless, the former No. 1 pick couldn't care less. In his media availability ahead of Game 5, Wembanyama was completely unfazed by the incident.
“I mean, I didn’t really think much of it,” Wembanyama said. “I just saw that one video of the eggs. I didn’t see any other one. But it’s OK. I don’t dislike it. Obviously, it’s not good at all. But it doesn’t bother me.”
That's a pretty solid response from the young star. While he didn't endorse it and lamented that it happened, he let them know that they wouldn't get into his head.
Wembanyama downplayed the entire thing and didn't want to make a big fuss out of it:
“Yeah, we did hear some things, yeah,” the French star said. “I didn’t see any. I don’t have no idea. I think it was a bottle because it was like water on the bus. But I don’t know. I didn’t see anything.”
Wembanyama will face the toughest and most crucial challenge of his young and promising career on Sunday night when he tries to stave off elimination and force Game 6 at the Garden.
The Knicks, on the other hand, will look to close things out to secure their first title in 53 years. Hopefully, fans will carry themselves differently, regardless of what happens.
