Royals' Jac Caglianone has broken his early-season slump in a big way

On the season, the 23-year-old is batting .279 with eight home runs and an .808 OPS. He's also possessed elite bat speed ranking in the 96th percentile at 76.8 mph and a hard-hit rate of 57.4%, sitting in the 98th percentile. 

In addition, his sweet-spot percentage (39%) has also improved, which has allowed him to unleash more raw power. When looking at his high .363 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA), it places him in the top 80th percentile of MLB hitters, which is an indication that he's making elite contact. 

By making an adjustment with his plate discipline, he's lowered his strikeout rate through better pitch selection, being more patient at the plate, and working pitchers ahead in counts. In May, he struck out 27 times, and so far in June, he's only struck out nine times. 

Cags has come a long way from his 2025 rookie campaign, where he slashed .147/.205/.280, transforming from a struggling rookie into a dominant force in the Royals lineup. 

The struggles that he encountered as a rookie have allowed him to adapt his mindset at the plate while learning from his past adversities.
