Spurs get bad news about possible invasion of Knicks fans for Game 5 of NBA Finals

Shortly after the New York Knicks completed the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history en route to stunning the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night and grabbing a 3-1 series lead, some wondered how long it would take for passionate Knicks fans to begin making their plans to travel to San Antonio for what could be a historic Game 5.

It sounds like Spurs players should expect to hear plenty of "Let's Go Knicks" chants at Frost Bank Center on Saturday night.

Knicks fans are scooping up Game 5 tickets

"Nearly half of the tickets purchased for the next game in San Antonio are from New York/New Jersey area codes, according to TickPick," James Mertz of NJ Advance Media shared on Friday afternoon.

Additionally, Chris Cwik of Yahoo Sports revealed that ticket outlet Gametime said that "Knicks markets have accounted for 54% of all tickets sold ahead of the game" as of late Friday morning.

It's hardly a surprise that Knicks fans are hitting the road this coming weekend, as they were responsible for noteworthy arena takeovers during the Eastern Conference semifinals matchup versus the Philadelphia 76ers and for New York's Eastern Conference Finals showdown with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Both the Sixers and Cavaliers attempted to restrict primary-market ticket sales geographically, which New York supporters seemed to take as a challenge.

Why Knicks fans are eager to flock to San Antonio

As Matt Levy noted for the New York Post, Knicks fans have reasons to want to be in the building this Saturday for reasons that go beyond the fact that New York is on the brink of winning the franchise's first NBA title since 1973. As of 11:19 a.m. ET on Friday, one outlet had ticket prices for Game 5 starting at $1,390 (including fees). At that same time, tickets for Game 6 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night were going for roughly $11,373.

According to Cwik, the get-in price for Game 4 in Manhattan "was as high as $13,000 before eventually falling to roughly $3,368 hours before the game." Meanwhile, those remaining in the New York City area this weekend will be able to attend one of the numerous watch parties scheduled for Saturday.
