Analyst lays out scenario where Vikings trade WR Justin Jefferson

As pretty much any good NFL fan knows, Kevin O'Connell and the Minnesota Vikings have a complex quarterback room right now. All eyes are watching Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy, who are competing for the coveted starting role.

Whichever player gets selected, what will matter most, by far, is their offense. Even the best quarterbacks struggle without solid targets around them, and that's the dilemma that both Murray and McCarthy will face. So, even though it's more exciting to focus on the quarterback competition, the offensive lineup call may be even more important.

One NFL analyst thinks the Vikings should part ways with one of those offensive targets. He's a former first-round pick, too.

In a piece for PFF, Daire Carragher laid out five possible trades he sees happening before September.

"Superstars on the move are not suddenly becoming commonplace, but the league and its fans are quickly coming around to the idea that everybody is on the table if the price is right," Carragher wrote.

Vikings could part ways with wide receiver for a trade deal

Carragher can see the Vikings trading wide receiver Justin Jefferson, following his difficult 2025 season.

"A frustrating first season alongside J.J. McCarthy that saw Jefferson post career lows in receiving yardage and touchdowns can be tolerated. If the Vikings' offense fails to improve in 2026, however, the rumor mill will begin churning," Carragher noted.

He added: "While Jefferson’s quarterbacks had a passer rating of 58.3 when throwing his direction last season, there is no reason to believe he has become anything less than an elite receiver. He will still be only 27 years old next offseason and would instantly become the most attractive trade asset available anywhere in the league."

So, trading Jefferson would likely land the Vikings some solid draft picks in the future. On the other hand, it may very well be worth it to keep him and see what kind of chemistry he has with Murray. It would be the worst to trade away someone who could turn into a valuable target.
