The New York Knicks have one of the biggest, loudest and most loyal fan bases in all of sports.
However, they can't hold a candle to Taylor Swift's die-hard fans — no one can. That's why basketball analyst Monica McNutt had a tough 48 hours when she was caught in a hot-mic moment claiming that Swift, who was in attendance at Madison Square Garden for Game 4 of the NBA Finals, wasn't a Knicks fan.
That's also why, shortly after winning the Finals and claiming Finals MVP honors, Knicks star Jalen Brunson urged Swifties to cut McNutt some slack.
“I just want to say something to the Swifties. She’s [McNutt] a really good one. Cut her some slack. It’s all good. I promise,” Brunson said (h/t Knicks on MSG).
Notably, McNutt had already cleared the air and apologized to the pop star and her millions of fans all over the world.
“Swifties, I appreciate your passion. I said what I said. And here's the deal, if I'm wrong—I am wrong, apparently—because she's got an OG Amar'e Stoudemire jersey,” McNutt told TMZ. “I had not seen her here this year or last year, and we just saw her in Cleveland with her fiancee (Travis Kelce). Obviously, Travis supports the Cavs. She didn't have any Knicks paraphernalia, so I did not know of her Knicks loyalty. But shoutout, T-Swift. We can be united in orange and blue, like, it's fine.”
Knicks games are always packed with celebrities. Given everything the fans had to go through to get tickets for the Finals, it made sense that people wanted true, die-hard fans in attendance, not anyone else.
Whether Swift was actually a Knicks fan or not probably didn't give McNutt the right to say "get her out of there," but the point remains. Still, there's simply no arguing with that fan base. They're millions, they're among us and they will make you pay.
