NFL general manager repeats predictions about Eagles' Jalen Hurts situation

Since this past winter, numerous stories have suggested that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman could move on from quarterback Jalen Hurts if Hurts doesn't play well under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion through at least January 2027.

One recent rumor mentioned that Roseman may view Baltimore Ravens star signal-caller Lamar Jackson as a potential replacement for Hurts. Jackson could sign a contract extension that keeps him married to the Ravens this summer, but it nevertheless sounds like people around the NFL are convinced Hurts will find himself playing for the future of his Eagles tenure this coming fall.

Eagles "keeping their options open" amid Jalen Hurts rumors?

"Dude, you know Howie," one unnamed general manager told NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom US for an article published on Monday. "He’s not sentimental. Look what they did with [former head coach Doug Pederson]. They are keeping their options open for next year (2027). This is it for Hurts there if he doesn’t step up."

That executive was referencing how Pederson guided the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in February 2018 but was later fired by the club in January 2021. Like Pederson, Hurts helped the Eagles add a Vince Lombardi Trophy to their trophy case. He also earned Super Bowl LIX Most Valuable Player Award honors in February 2025.

That said, some think Hurts may be more of a problem than a solution as it pertains to the struggles the Eagles offense endured last season. It's also thought that supposed problems between Hurts and wide receiver A.J. Brown have at least something to do with the fact that the Eagles traded Brown to the New England Patriots earlier in June.

Eagles will stay "as flexible as possible" if Jalen Hurts doesn't play at an elite level

"Howie isn’t just going to sit on his hands if he thinks there are better options," one longtime personnel executive told La Canfora. "We all know that. He’s going to stay as flexible as possible (at QB)."

One would think multiple quarterback-needy teams would be interested in acquiring Hurts if he is made available in early 2027. That said, it's unclear what Roseman may want in return for the team's QB1.
