All things considered, the Boston Celtics overachieved this year, at least in the regular season.
However, after watching head coach Joe Mazzulla blow a big playoff series lead, some doubts arose about the 2024 champions. Once again, Jaylen Brown's glaring limitations got exposed when it mattered the most. With Jayson Tatum as the undisputed franchise player, the Celtics could be a part of the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.
Should that happen, Brown might end up in the Western Conference. Per NBA insider Grant Afseth, he could be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.
“A potential multi-team trade framework making the rounds in league circles would bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics and send Jaylen Brown to the Los Angeles Clippers, with the Clippers’ No. 5 overall pick going to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the return, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal,” wrote Afseth.
Brown had an MVP-caliber season when Tatum was out. He's a very good player when he doesn't have to bring the ball up, and he'd be a significant upgrade next to Kawhi Leonard for the Clippers.
As for Giannis, he's firmly expected to be traded before the June 23 NBA Draft, with most of his suitors in the Eastern Conference. Per reports, even the New York Knicks could be after him, with Karl-Anthony Towns as the centerpiece of a potential trade.
Whatever the case, the NBA season might be over, but the offseason is just getting started. It looks like multiple old faces will end up in new places.
