Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong hits for first cycle of 2026 season

Not many hitters were hotter than Chicago Cubs superstar Pete Crow-Armstrong at the plate entering Monday.

Crow-Armstrong continued his excellent stretch against the Colorado Rockies on Monday when he accomplished a feat for just the 13th time in franchise history.

Pete Crow-Armstrong hits for the cycle

Four at-bats and four hits later, the young superstar known as "PCA" had completed the 13th cycle in Cubs history. Crow-Armstrong became the first Chicago player to have a cycle since Carson Kelly in 2024.

Crow-Armstrong also became just the fourth left-handed Cubs hitter with a cycle in franchise history. He joined Mark Grace, Billy Williams and Babe Herman. Grace was the last left-hander to accomplish the feat for Chicago, that coming in 1993.

The cycle was completed in reverse order

Not often are cycles completed the opposite of the way many people say it (single, double, triple home run), but that is exactly what Crow-Armstrong did.

He started the game with a leadoff home run against starter Michael Lorenzen. He then tripled and doubled off Lorenzen before finishing the cycle against left-hander Brendan Bernandino.

Matt Shaw played the hero after Cole Carrigg played the villain

With the Cubs leading 2-1 in the top of the 8th inning, Rockies rookie utilityman Cole Carrigg tried to play spoiler and quiet the Wrigley Field crowd

Carrigg launched a no-doubt three-run home run to give Colorado a 4-2 lead. The Colorado lead held until the bottom of the ninth inning. That's when the Cubs put together a rally for a comeback 5-4 win, capped off by a walk-off walk from Matt Shaw.

Chicago is beginning to play well again

The same Cubs team that won 10 games in a row twice within the first two months of the season has started to reappear in recent days.

With continued stellar performances from Crow-Armstrong and others, Chicago can once again become a threat in the National League.
