The New York Yankees could use some help at the plate, especially with Aaron Judge sidelined with an injury.
They haven't gotten much offensive production from their catchers, and with the Aug. 3 trade deadline zooming in, that should be a situation to address. Considering that, they might set their sights on Colorado's Rocky Mountains to find their next backstop.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees could be in the mix for Colorado Rockies star Hunter Goodman.
“I think this is a long shot, but I’ll throw it out there. Yankees look like they may need a catcher, at least a backup catcher. Right now, the Yankees catchers are hitting, get this, .173 as a group. They could look at catcher Hunter Goodman, who looks like an All-Star again,” Heyman said on MLB Network.
Goodman was an All-Star and Silver Slugger winner last season, and he's been one of the few bright spots on the slumping Rockies. He's hitting .255 with 37 RBI and 20 home runs, and he's coming off blasting 31 dingers last season.
Goodman still has three more years of club control, so it would be interesting to see what kind of return the Rockies would be willing to take for his services. Whatever the case, the Yankees must do something to address their worrisome catcher situation.
Austin Wells is working his way back from cervical headaches and neck stiffness and should be back with the team soon. However, that won't do much to help the offense, as he's hitting just .166 with seven RBI and four home runs this season.
