Why Broncos’ Bo Nix thinks history shows latest ankle injury could be a positive

On Tuesday, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix suggested that he is on track to be his old self coming off the second procedure he needed related to the broken bone in his right ankle that he suffered in the divisional round of the playoffs this past January.

That said, the fact that Nix has a worrisome history of ankle issues going back to his high-school days has sparked concerns about his long-term health. On Tuesday, he noted that past events show that this latest setback may prove to be a sign of good things to come for everybody involved with the Broncos.

Will Bo Nix win another championship after an ankle injury?

"When I had an ankle injury in high school, we won the state championship," Nix explained, per Nick Kosmider of The Athletic. "When I had an ankle injury in college, we went and won a lot of games at Oregon. Now, I expect it to be the same thing."

Of course, Nix and his teammates likely spent portions of the spring wondering what would have been had he been able to play in the AFC Championship Game versus the New England Patriots on Jan. 25. New England earned a nervy 10-7 win that day, but the Patriots later endured a 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

Bo Nix not worried about his long-term health

As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Broncos tied for seventh among the betting favorites at +1025 odds to represent the AFC in Super Bowl LXI. It sounds like Nix expects that he will remain healthy and available for the Broncos through what he hopes will be a multi-game postseason journey.

"For me, it’s another bump in the road, another thing, but one thing I don’t worry about right now is my health," Nix added. "We play this game long enough, you get hurt, you have bumps and bruises. We have great medicine these days, great training to where you get back on the field. You look at some of the worst injuries you can get, and guys are back on the field the next year feeling stronger than ever. …I don’t worry about that at all."

As ESPN's Jeff Legwold and others shared, Nix expects to be good to go when training camp opens during the last week of July.
