Just over a year from his MLB debut, Colson Montgomery accomplished a career-first and made franchise history all in the same game.
On Wednesday, in an effort that ended up not being enough as the Chicago White Sox lost 10-5 to the Yankees in New York, Montgomery crushed two home runs and drove in four of his team's five runs.
Montgomery's two-homer night was the first multi-homer performance of his young career, connecting on long balls in both the third and eighth innings. He also reached 40 career home runs in 140 games with the White Sox, becoming the fastest to the milestone in franchise history.
First, Montgomery, 24, went yard with two outs and two base runners aboard for a three-run blast. Then, he did it again in his last at-bat of the night. He rocketed a 1-1 pitch into the stands in deep right field to provide some hope for Chicago despite the large deficit.
Montgomery's two home runs in the second day of the White Sox series in New York give him three in as many games. He now has 19 on the year with 44 RBIs in 69 games so far in 2026.

He hit his first homer on 7/22/25. Since that day, he’s second in MLB in home runs, behind only Kyle Schwarber (49) https://t.co/BlP8uvLUum
But Montgomery has been a boom-or-bust type of player, hitting just .225 with a .319 OBP and a .502 slug.
As a rookie in 2025, Montgomery, who made his MLB debut on the July 4th holiday, smacked 21 home runs with 55 RBIs and recorded 61 total hits and 43 runs scored. He posted a finals slash line of .239/.311/.529.
It's up to the versatile infielder with power to keep up his current pace and further establish himself as one of baseball's budding stars.
Montgomery has already helped to influence a change in direction for the organization, leading to the White Sox sitting in first place in the American League Central at 38-24.
