Commanders' Jayden Daniels makes big announcement about disappointing 2025 season

The 2025 NFL season did not go as quarterback Jayden Daniels and others associated with the Washington Commanders had hoped after the club appeared in that year's NFC Championship Game.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Daniels made it known that he and others in the locker room are turning the figurative page.

Jayden Daniels is officially "done talking about last year"

"I'm done talking about last year," Daniels revealed, per John Keim of ESPN. "Last year is last year; I'm moving on to this season, and whatever happened last year, happened last year. It can't do anything for me; I'll just continue to get better."

Daniels earned Offensive Rookie of the Year Award honors for the 2024 season en route to guiding the Commanders to within a victory of playing in the Super Bowl. However, multiple physical setbacks limited the young signal-caller to seven starts last fall before he was shut down for the remainder of the season after he aggravated a previously suffered elbow injury.

Jayden Daniels speaks honestly about learning a new offense

Washington parted ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury shortly after the club finished the campaign with a record of 5-12. The Commanders later promoted assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough to Kingsbury's previous role.

"I've still got a long way to go," Daniels admitted. "...Just learning the new offense, terminology, why we're attacking this play, what we want to do on this play -- things like that."

Daniels reportedly spent portions of the offseason "getting stronger physically and more refined as a quarterback" in an attempt to avoid missing games as he did throughout the 2025 season. According to Keim, Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil recently referred to Daniels as a "dawg" and said that Washington's QB1 is "going to get it done."

If Daniels either doesn't "get it done" or misses a significant portion of the upcoming season for whatever reason, those running the Commanders may need to begin having difficult conversations about whether or not the club's long-term franchise quarterback is on its roster. For now, Daniels will continue getting ready to start Washington's Week 1 game at the rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 13.
