The Kansas City Chiefs have a bit over a month until they get back on the field for training camp.
That should give them more than enough time to get some clarity on Rashee Rice's health and whether he'll face another suspension for his off-the-field situation.
Regardless of Rice's status, the Chiefs' wide receiver corps is thinner than that of a Super Bowl-caliber team.
Considering that, ESPN analyst Aaron Schatz argued that Deebo Samuel would give them strong insurance for Rice's situation.
"Enter veteran Samuel. He had a bit of an off 2025 season with a career-low 10.1 yards per reception with the Commanders, but he still managed to gain 727 receiving yards with five touchdowns," wrote Schatz. "At age 30, there's probably still something left in the tank, and his ability to also take carries from the backfield makes him extra fun for Reid to play with in his game-planning."
Samuel is no longer the explosive dual-threat star he was in his prime, but he was in great shape and healthy last season.
The Chiefs don't have many alternatives in the wide receiver room. Xavier Worthy has been inconsistent and underwhelming so far, and Tyquan Thornton has only been a big-play specialist.
Jalen Royals, Cyrus Allen and Nikko Remigio will likely round out the 53-man roster, and that might not be enough to help Patrick Mahomes get this team back to the biggest game of the season.
The Chiefs made a big splash by adding reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, but the passing game remains a concern.
And with not many options left in free agency, Samuel should at least get some consideration in Missouri.
