As of the afternoon of June 19, safety Kamren Curl and other members of the Los Angeles Rams allegedly did not know whether or not defensive superstar Aaron Donald will end his retirement to once again feature for the Rams at some point during the 2026 NFL season.
During a recent appearance on the FanDuel TV "Up & Adams" program, Curl shared quite a bold prediction regarding what the Rams defense will be able to achieve through early 2027.
"Man, [the Rams’ defense] could look crazy," Curl said, per Josh Buckhalter of Heavy. "But at the end of the day, we just got to put in the work. And on Sundays, we got to come, make the plays. And then, the story [will] write itself. It’s early, but I feel like we got a chance to be legendary."
Coming off a trip to this year's NFC Championship Game, the Rams made multiple moves to bolster their defense. As noted by ESPN, Los Angeles agreed to trade for cornerback Trent McDuffie and then signed him to a four-year, $124M extension this past March. The Rams later signed fellow cornerback Jaylen Watson to a three-year deal, and the club also gave Curl a three-year, $36M extension.
Of course, acquiring star pass-rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns earlier this month was the biggest blockbuster move made by the Rams during the current league year.
"The type of guys we got," Curl continued, "the coaches we got, man, and we got a bunch of experience back there. We've got some Super Bowl winners in there. We've got some Defensive Player of the Years. We've got some guys that, if we do what we got to do, we could be one of the best."
As of Friday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Rams as the overall betting favorites at +550 odds to win Super Bowl LXI in February 2027. While Donald may no longer be exactly what he was when in his prime, adding the 35-year-old at any point during the season likely wouldn't hurt the Rams' chances of competing for a championship.
