Many elite players have come through South Bend over the years, but only a few running backs for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have hit the 3,000-plus-yard mark.
It's a small list. At the top of it is Autry Detson, who put up 4,318 total rushing yards from 1995 to 1998. Checking in at No. 6 and still holding onto that spot despite two incredible seasons from Jeremiyah Love is Julius Jones, who rushed for 3,018 total yards for Notre Dame from 1993 to 2003.
Jones is one of the greats ever to do it for the Golden Domers, so it's no surprise that his sons, top football recruits in their own right, have committed to Notre Dame.
First was 2027 four-star wideout recruit Julius Jones Jr., who committed to Notre Dame over the Miami Hurricanes and Oregon Ducks.
Then followed younger brother Andre Jones, a four-star 2028 safety recruit. He committed to Notre Dame over the Indiana Hoosiers and UCLA Bruins.

This was a commitment a long time in coming for Julius Jr. He and Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman had formed a connection, and that helped the Irish in this recruiting battle.
“I talk to Coach Freeman a lot, and he lets me know how important I am and that I am his recruit,” Jones recently told Chad Simmons of Rivals. “He tells me I am extremely important to him and being part of the class. How I am recruited and the mystique keeps them high for me. I grew up a fan too, so I will always love Notre Dame.”
The four-star wideout from St. Thomas Aquinas High School will be an important pickup for Freeman and his staff. Jones Jr. is ranked as the No. 12 wideout in the country. A multi-sport athlete, he was a Maxpreps Junior All-America second-team selection in football in 2025 after catching 58 passes for 876 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Andre, the younger brother, is also a big-time recruiting pickup for Notre Dame. He's ranked as the No. 29 safety in the 2028 class and notched 37 tackles, four pass breakups and one interception for St. Thomas Aquinas in 2025.
The key with Andre will be keeping him committed all the way through the 2028 cycle early signing period, but considering the family ties, this has to feel pretty solid for Freeman and the Irish.
There are now two players committed to Notre Dame's 2028 class. In 2027, the list has grown to 19 in a class that looks elite and is ranked No. 3 nationally.
