Mike Vrabel's Patriots still have two issues to address before training camp

The New England Patriots didn't need to make a ton of moves after reaching the Super Bowl last offseason.

However, Mike Vrabel's team has been quite active in addressing their obvious roster needs ahead of the regime's second season.

They've taken care of business for the most part, and while they could still use another piece or two, they're entering the break in a privileged position.

Nevertheless, it's not like they can afford to rest on their laurels. As ESPN insider Mike Reiss pointed out, they still have to figure out the contract situations with Gabe Jacas and Christian Gonzalez.

Patriots' to-do list includes big contract negotiations

"With rookies departing, and most veterans set to return July 24, this is officially the quietest time on the Patriots' calendar all year. But that doesn't mean there aren't a few important items on the 'to-do' list. It starts with signing second-round pick Gabe Jacas, and continuing to discuss an extension with cornerback Christian Gonzalez," wrote Reiss.

Jacas' situation is similar to Quinshon Judkins' last offseason. Second-round picks are demanding more guarantees on their deals, and it should be just a matter of time before they finally find some common ground.

The young pass rusher needs to be on the field for training camp, and failing to get him there would be terrible asset management.

As for Gonzalez, his camp might be waiting for Seattle Seahawks star CB Devon Witherspoon to sign an extension first, so they can use their new deal as a baseline.

All things considered, none of these issues should linger or drag into the season.

Then again, it might be a while before they untangle negotiations and get deals done.
