Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have spent the better part of two decades defining an era of NFL football. While Brady ultimately compiled the more decorated career, Rodgers has long been regarded as one of the most gifted quarterbacks the league has ever seen.
Recently, the former Patriots quarterback was asked about Rodgers and offered an assessment that is sure to reignite debate among football fans regarding where the future Hall of Famer ranks among the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
Tom Brady proclaims Aaron Rodgers is the NFL's greatest passer
Speaking on the "Stick To Football" podcast, Brady did not hesitate when discussing Rodgers' ability as a passer.
“I think there’s no greater passer of the football than Aaron Rodgers,” Brady said. "There’s certain people, you see everyone do it, and then you see one person throw the ball that much better. Aaron Rodgers was incredible.”
What makes Brady’s remarks unique is that it is not about saying that Rodgers is the best quarterback in the NFL. Brady says Rodgers is the best passer in NFL history. And as with any debate involving those titles, it involves two separate categories.
The great quarterback position encompasses championships, playoff experience, and longevity. Passing is simply about throwing the ball itself, and Rodgers apparently is in the top spot for that talent, even with all respect from the widely recognized all-time greatest.
Tom Brady details what makes Aaron Rodgers the greatest
Brady continued his evaluation by explaining exactly what separates Rodgers from other quarterbacks.
"It's hard to put into words how incredible he passes the ball,” Brady said. “The way it comes out of his hand, the way it spins and delivers with the pace and the accuracy. There’s only probably three people in the history of the NFL that could do it like him.”
That particular quote shows what quarterbacks truly focus on when it comes to assessing their counterparts. While casual fans might concentrate on touchdowns, wins and rings, Brady emphasizes velocity, accuracy and ball mechanics.
Brady focuses on the things that the players on the same level arguably could appreciate more than anyone else. Rodgers, who throws balls few players could even imagine attempting, is among the handful of people who belong in such an elite group of quarterbacks.
GOAT recognizes GOAT
As Rodgers enters what could be his final season in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brady's comments are a powerful nod to just how significant he has been to the sport. He will never have Brady’s championship resume. But arguments for greatest quarterback can be debated ad nauseam and will surely exist forever.
If Brady, who most will debate is the greatest quarterback of all time, says Rodgers is the greatest passer the game has ever witnessed, you cannot dismiss his place among the NFL's all-time elite.
