Running back Bijan Robinson may be feeling a little envious after the Atlanta Falcons signed two of their other skill players to contract extensions.
The Falcons and tight end Kyle Pitts agreed to a three-year, $54M deal, with $36M guaranteed, on Tuesday, which makes him the third-highest-paid TE in the NFL behind Arizona Cardinals star Trey McBride ($19M) and San Francisco 49ers standout George Kittle ($19.1M). Atlanta already signed wide receiver Drake London to a four-year, $141M contract extension.
Robinson, who has two years remaining on his rookie contract, may be wondering when he'll get an extension. He shouldn't have to wait much longer. Signing one-time Pro Bowler Pitts makes it easier for the Falcons to solidify their future with the star RB.
The figures for Pitts' deal have not yet been added to Over the Cap. But using the site's projections shows how the TE's extension creates more financial room for Atlanta.
Highest paid TEs in per year average:
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) June 23, 2026
George Kittle: $19.1M
Trey McBride: $19M
Kyle Pitts: $18M
Isaiah Likely: $13.333M
Mark Andrews: $13.089M https://t.co/yrquZlXCfY
The site estimated that a Pitts extension would yield $11.064M in cap savings (salary cap a team frees up) for Atlanta. The Falcons entered Tuesday with $27.538M in cap room.
Now, an extension for Robinson could still devour Atlanta's future cap space. The Texas Longhorns product could command a deal that's worth more than that of Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley, the highest-paid back in the league in terms of average annual salary ($20.6M per year).
Robinson is worth that kind of money. Since the Falcons took him with pick No. 8 in the 2023 NFL Draft, he has made two Pro Bowls and earned one first-team All-Pro nod. This past season, he finished fourth in Offensive Player of the Year voting after rushing for a career-high 1,478 yards in 17 games.
Robinson also plays a key role in Atlanta's passing game. Sports Info Solutions credited him with 820 receiving yards on 79 receptions last season, No. 2 among RBs behind San Francisco's Christian McCaffrey (924 on 102 receptions).
Signing Robinson to an extension should be a no-brainer for the Falcons. He, London and Pitts have been among the few bright spots for the franchise, which hasn't made the playoffs since 2017.
Keeping the offensive core intact would allow Atlanta to cross off one item on its to-do list. The next one would be finding a quarterback who can jell with these weapons, whether it's Tua Tagovailoa, Michael Penix Jr. or a signal-caller in the 2027 draft.
