The Denver Broncos are on track to feature quite an impressive one-two punch for their passing attack of Jaylen Waddle and Courtland Sutton after Denver acquired Waddle from the Miami Dolphins earlier in the offseason.
That said, the long-term future of fellow Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is up in the air during the early days of the NFL's summer break, as he is in the final year of his existing contract. In a video shared by DNVR’s Zac Stevens on Tuesday, Mims discussed what could be an awkward situation for everybody involved.
"Sometimes, I’m not in the most fortunate situations," Mims acknowledged, per Tony Adame of Heavy. "Sometimes I am a little irritated with my situation. But at the end of the day, I’m blessed to be where I am. With this possibly being my last year, I’m just going to enjoy it to the fullest … we’ll see what happens. But if this is my last year, I’m looking forward to it with these guys because I’ve had a great time here in Denver the past three years."
ESPN stats show that Mims ended the 2025 regular season ranked fifth on the Broncos with 37 receptions, fifth with 51 targets and sixth with 322 receiving yards. Over 15 games, he tallied just a single receiving score.
Some have suggested Mims could be available to other teams via a trade, if only because he may not have any real future with Denver beyond the 2026 season. However, the Broncos likely aren't looking to weaken their roster coming off a trip to this year's AFC Championship Game. Additionally, the Denver coaching staff ideally will want to make life as easy for quarterback Bo Nix as possible.
Nix has spent the bulk of 2026 recovering from the broken bone in his right ankle that he suffered in the divisional round of the playoffs this past January.
Earlier this month, Sutton said he is excited about being part of "a selfless offense" that now includes Waddle. On Tuesday, Mims referred to the Broncos' offense as a "pick your poison" unit.
Perhaps most interestingly, Mims hinted that he'd like an opportunity to earn a contract extension from the team that made him a second-round pick during the 2023 draft. He also repeated that he is looking forward to playing alongside his current teammates.
In short, it seems like Mims wants to put to bed any talk about possibly being traded this summer or fall. Whether or not he will still be with the Broncos come September shall be seen.
