Prior to the 2023 MLB season, the New York Mets secured one of the biggest free agents in right-handed pitcher Kodai Senga, signing him to a five-year, $75 million contract.
Fast forward to present day, and Senga's MLB career has been rather disappointing.
After earning the loss in Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs, Senga fell to 0-6 on the season. Not only is he winless on the season, but it's been over a full calendar year since Senga's last win.
That last win came June 12, 2025, when Senga went 5 2/3 innings and allowed no runs in a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Since that start, Senga has earned the losing decision nine times in 15 starts.

With his season ERA up over 10.00 now, Senga may have diminished any trade value he has in what has been a disappointing season for the Mets.
Along with his diminished value, Senga has also struggled to stay healthy in the MLB, finding himself on the injured list at some point in each of his first four seasons.
A trade of the once-distinguished and prized NBP ace seems far-fetched, meaning New York may be stuck with the final season-and-a-half of Senga's contract.
