Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame land elite QB recruit in massive win

Trey Tagliaferri is one of the top quarterbacks in the 2028 class.

From Oradell, New Jersey (Bergen Catholic High School), he's ranked as the No. 14 overall quarterback in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.

As such, it's no surprise that many schools have been after his commitment. His offer list features over 30 programs, with several blue bloods remaining toward the top of his list when it came time for him to make a decision.

Ultimately, though, Tagliaferri committed to Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Oklahoma Sooners and Penn State Nittany Lions were also strongly in the running. Other notable offers were from Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Ohio State.

The connection not just to Notre Dame as an institution, but the folks in South Bend, is what really stood out to Tagliaferri.

Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame Fighting Irish win over four-star QB

“What made me commit was the people,” Tagliaferri told Rivals. “I love the people there and we have built great relationships.”

Notre Dame offered the four-star quarterback in early June, so this was a relatively quick commitment. The Fighting Irish will also have to keep Tagliaferri committed through signing day 2028, but he seems to be bought-in to what Marcus Freeman has going on in South Bend.

“Notre Dame is a great program with a great history of players and coaches,” Tagliaferri had recently said. “The coaching staff is amazing and have developed so many great players.

“ND definitely stands high on my list. Coach Gino (Guidugli) and Freeman are two great coaches and would be honored to play under them.”

As a sophomore in high school, Tagliaferri threw for 2,215 yards and 29 touchdowns compared to three interceptions. As his high school career goes onward, there's reason to believe he'll end up as one of the more high-profile quarterbacks in the country when all is said and done.

His commitment to Notre Dame only makes that more likely.
