After he was arrested on felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping on Wednesday, Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold appeared at a hearing in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday. Judge J. Logan Murphy ruled that Arnold will be held without bond until his pretrial detention hearing on June 29 (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk).
Judge Murphy told Arnold he will stay in custody for now because his felonies are allegedly “dangerous crimes” that carry a sentence of up to life in prison.
With Arnold facing four counts of armed robbery and four counts of kidnapping, he could remain in custody well beyond next Monday’s hearing.
In a post on X, the Hillsborough County (Florida) State Attorney’s Office announced that prosecutors will argue he should be behind bars with no bond until a trial occurs.

Police have accused Arnold of being the “primary conspirator” in a revenge plot against three men whom he believed robbed over $250K of personal property from his AirBNB rental unit in Largo, Florida, in February. Three days after reporting it to police, Arnold allegedly enlisted associates to lure those three men to an apartment, where they were detained and pistol-whipped. However, it turns out those men were not the perpetrators who stole Arnold’s property, according to investigators (via ESPN).
“He’s absolutely denying these allegations,” defense attorney R. Timothy Jansen said of Arnold on Thursday.
There are at least seven people facing charges, per ESPN. Two of Arnold’s fellow defendants agreed to plea deals on Wednesday, hours before he surrendered to a warrant at a Tampa jail. Three other defendants are also facing life sentences.
Arnold, a 2024 first-round pick, had been in line to compete for a starting job with the Lions this summer. Considering the charges against him, it is up in the air whether the 23-year-old will play again for the Lions or any other NFL team. For now, Arnold looks like a candidate to end up on the commissioner’s exempt list. If Roger Goodell chooses that route, Arnold would go on paid leave and would not be allowed to practice or play in any games.
