One of the biggest debates of the offseason is always whether or not the NFL should have all-natural grass fields in their stadiums. Now, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins is getting in on that debate.
According to research from the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA), natural grass fields are safer than artificial turf for players. Per their report, players have a higher rate of injuries like ACL and Achilles tears on synthetic surfaces.
Those injuries, of course, can end seasons and even careers. So, players have spoken up with their comments in the past, and now, Cousins is giving his thoughts.
Cousins spoke on "The Rich Eisen Show" about grass or turf this week, and he gave his clear thoughts about it.
"I notice that you could not beat natural grass fields. It felt so much better than the nicest field turf you can get," he said. "Going into the NFL I preferred grass. Not all grass fields are created equal. You go to Wembley Stadium in London, that had a different feel of natural grass than Lambeau Field."
He added: "I always side with well-kept grass; you cannot beat that. That is assuming it is going to be kept to the standard that you are expecting. Field turf is the simple answer in so many ways for so many people."
So, Cousins is on the side of well-kept grass. Lucky for him, the Raiders play on real grass, so he'll get to experience that this coming season.
