LeBron James has a plan for new free-agency saga

For the first time in eight years — and the fourth in his career — LeBron James is the biggest fish in NBA free agency.

That's clearly a testament to his greatness at 42, but people should know what to expect by now.

There will be plenty of smoke and several suitors for his services, and it might be a while before people know where he's heading.

According to ESPN insider Dave McMenamin, James wants to test the waters and evaluate each team's pitch before making a decision.

LeBron James will keep his options open

"LeBron James has instructed Rich Paul to talk to everyone around the league who is interested in him playing for them and come back to him with what the options are so he can make his decision, a source familiar with James' thinking told ESPN," McMenamin shared on X.

While that's how all players handle free agency, James has always been extremely cerebral and intentional in every career move. He will have multiple options to choose from, but that doesn't mean he'll seriously consider each and every one of his suitors.

For now, it looks like the Golden State Warriors are leading the race for his sweepstakes, though a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers — and even the Miami Heat — might also be in the cards.

This will most likely be James' final stop before calling it a career, but after averaging 23 points per game in the playoffs at 41, it's clear that he could still give Father Time a run for his money for a little longer.
