With one swing of the bat that further argues MVP consideration and makes history, Yordan Alvarez powered the Houston Astros to a much-needed 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.
As he has all year, Alvarez delivered in the clutch for his team when they desperately needed him the most.
To paint the picture, he stepped up to the plate with two outs against the Astros as they were trailing by one run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
What happened next will go down in franchise lore no matter how the 2026 season ends. The three-time American League All-Star smacked a mammoth grand slam that sent three base runners home and copiloted the Astros ahead of the Twins for good.
Alvarez's grand slam landed in the bullpen after being rocketed to deep right center field. It was the seventh of his career, marching the Astros franchise record.

He even finished the game having produced more than just the grand slam, granted that became enough for the Astros to hold on for the win. He recorded two additional hits, going 3-for-4 overall as the only Houston player to post a multi-hit game.
And despite the Astros' up-and-down season as a team — they sit at 43-35 and in third place in the AL West, Alvarez's individual prowess has been evident all season. He now has 26 home runs, 60 RBI, 97 hits, 59 runs scored and 16 doubles with a slash line of .314/.428/.618, leading the majors in slugging.
On track to achieve new personal career highs at 29, Alvarez's monster 2026 comes after he was only able to hit six home runs in 48 games last season. His injury-plagued 2025 snapped a four-year stretch with 30 home runs every season from 2021 to 2024.
