It took some time for things to click, but Dansby Swanson has officially caught fire.
The Chicago Cubs shortstop has turned into one of baseball's most dangerous hitters over the past two weeks, putting together a blistering run that only a few players in MLB history have ever accomplished.
Swanson recently put together a two-day, three-game span against the New York Mets where he mashed three home runs and drove in 15 runs.
A slow weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers indicated that Swanson may have cooled off, but he put those thoughts to rest on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Over those two days, Swanson mashed five home runs, including his first career three-home run game in Wednesday's 23-3 win against the San Diego Padres.

Swanson's three-homer, eight-RBI game on Wednesday gave him 26 RBI over his last 10 games. According to MLB writer Jesse Rogers, Swanson became just the sixth player to collect 26+ RBI in a 10-game span.
The company he joined? Joe DiMaggio, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig and Mel Ott, all of whom are in the MLB Hall of Fame.

When the Cubs take the field again on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals, Swanson will have a chance at his third consecutive multi-home run game.
If he can accomplish that feat, he'd become just the fifth player in MLB history to do so. He'd join Gus Zernial, Frank Thomas, Lee May and Jeff DaVanon.
Remember, Chicago set a franchise record last season on July 4 against the Cardinals with eight home runs. Another outburst like that, Friday may see Swanson join a more rare company.
