To say that the New York Mets' season has been disappointing would be a massive understatement.
They were anointed as one of the offseason winners, yet they're sitting on a 36-50 record midway through the season. The Mets fired manager Carlos Mendoza after 2.5 years with the team, and they have a 2-3 record in five games under interim manager Andy Green.
However, the Mets' primary problem might not be who's calling the shots, according to MLB legend Pedro Martinez.
“The Mets lack identity, personality and leadership. It gets me mad,” Martinez shared on X.
“When I was with the Mets, our team was recognized by unity. We didn’t win the World Series, but we were pretty good and played together.”

Martinez called for the team to rally together and close out the season on a high note.
“Mets: Everyone is playing their own game,” Martinez added. “They need to be together to be successful. They can all give a little. The talent needs to show up and they need to be accountable.”

The Mets still have more than enough time to turn things around, and they certainly wouldn't be the first team to finish the year strong and peak at the right time. They have the talent to do it.
There's a little under half a season to straighten the course of the ship, but they can't keep dropping games at this rate. The Mets are 10.0 games behind a wild-card spot in the National League, but with the Aug. 3 trade deadline zooming in, time is of the essence in Queens.
