Cowboys QB Dak Prescott earns kudos but falls just short in new ranking

Nobody can say that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott isn't a solid player. Well, people can actually say anything they want, and in the age of social media, they do, but the numbers back up the idea that Prescott is a sturdy, talented quarterback for the Dallas franchise, so long as he stays healthy.

But, in his 10 years with the Cowboys, Prescott has yet to make it to the Super Bowl. He also has yet to get past the divisional round of the playoffs.

Is that his fault? Not really. A quarterback can't do everyone alone. But, it's why he just missed the mark on getting named one of the top tier quarterbacks in the NFL going into the new season.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has talent, but his record makes him miss top ranking

In a feature out on Wednesday, Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports ranks the NFL's quarterbacks going into the new season, and he puts them into tiers. He places Prescott in the second tier. What's nice is that he totally gives Prescott props but says that he couldn't put him in the top tier because of the Cowboys' record.

"Prescott has more than proven he is a franchise quarterback capable of leading the Cowboys to postseason success," he states in the piece. "Injuries, coaching, and personnel changes contributed to Prescott and the Cowboys' inability to snap the franchise's NFC title game/Super Bowl drought, which is now at 31 years."

If Prescott stays healthy this season and the players around him do the same, there's a good chance he'll get over that divisional round hurdle. With that in mind, it's shaping up to be a thrilling season for the Cowboys, finally.
