LeBron James is being linked to the Pistons — and it could work

The Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James are no longer a unit, which is weird to say, after eight years together. James became a focal part of the Lakers. He moved his family to Los Angeles and even had his son, Bronny James, part of the team.

But, it's time to move on, and James is now a free agent and looking for his next NBA home. When it comes to James landing spots, the same teams keep getting mentioned: the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, there's one team that could actually be a solid fit for James. It's a stretch, but it also makes sense. That team is the Detroit Pistons. Don't roll your eyes. There are a few reasons this could work.

Pistons being named as a possible LeBron James landing spot

So, why would the Pistons make sense for James? One of the reasons is because the Pistons just lost Tobias Harris. James could step into that role with the Pistons and be dynamite.

Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo Sports agrees. He mentions the Pistons as a possible new team for James.

"Would James dream of choosing a plug-and-play situation in which he could be the missing piece to a contender, because I'm just imagining him in Tobias Harris' spot," he states in a piece about James' landing spots. He adds that he doubts James "would take his talents to Detroit, but in a basketball sense it follows."

Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic is sold on the idea of James going to the Pistons. In a discussion feature about James' landing spots, he says, "if we are spitting advice here, then LeBron should go to the Detroit Pistons."

Vorkunov says that the Pistons "make basketball sense," because they're a "young team with a new star who can take some of the burden off LeBron and let him cook as a playmaker and basketball genius."

"He'd be part of the emerging West-to-East talent flow," he adds, "and if the Pistons can win a championship, what a coda it would be for James' career."

Frankly, seeing James and Cade Cunningham helping each other on the court would be pretty spectacular. It would make for an unexpected union, but James to the Pistons could actually work.
