Blue Jays' Kazuma Okamoto earns June AL Rookie of the Month award

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Kazuma Okamoto has earned the AL Rookie of the Month award for his electrifying performance in June. He logged an impressive .286 batting average with 26 hits, seven home runs, 20 RBI and 15 runs scored across 25 games in June

He is certainly deserving of the award and is a primary reason why the Blue Jays have a chance of contending this season. He has helped carry the load of the Blue Jays offense and has been the team's top run-producer with 54 RBI this season. He also ranks second among MLB rookies in RBI behind the Cincinnati Reds' Sal Stewart, who leads with 60.

Okamoto has made a huge turnaround in his performance from the start of the season where he was striking out at a high rate during a slump in late May (41.2% strikeout rate) and had to make adjustments.

It was evident that his early struggles weren't permanent. This is his first season playing in MLB following 11 seasons played in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NBP) league for the Yomiuri Giants. Okamoto has significantly lowered his strikeout rate to 32% and has been playing with a lot of confidence.

Kazuma Okamoto is a rising star for the Blue Jays

His clutch performance has made him a fan-favorite as he has crushed 19 home runs this season with a 49.5% hard-hit rate that sits in the 88th percentile.

His late-game-rally dominance has helped provide comeback success for the Blue Jays in several games, and while not all those games provided wins, it showcased how significant Okamoto is to the Blue Jays lineup.

The 30-year-old has not only gained recognition from fans but also his teammates. When Okamoto crushed a home run to the fifth deck of the Rogers Centre on June 12, it was a 463-foot moonshot that had teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in awe of the power he unleashed.

Sky has been the limit for ''Big Oak'' who is also looking to be an All-Star this season at third base. He has successfully made it into Phase 2 for voting and is in competition with Junior Caminero, who has been dominant with his power surge this season.
