The Golden State Warriors have been one of the most active teams in the early stages of the free-agency market.
While they have yet to make a big splash, they've already re-signed some of their own free agents, and they're one of the front-runners to sign LeBron James. That's why Draymond Green turned so many heads with his latest statement on his podcast. While he didn't mention James or anyone else by name, the former Defensive Player of the Year hinted at a big move on the horizon.
“Keep hearing rumors that the Dubs may still be making moves,” Green said. “We’ll see.”
Green opted out of the final year of his contract to give the team more financial flexibility to make moves, presumably to sign his fellow Klutch Sports athlete, LeBron James.
That sacrifice will be crucial in the team's pursuit of talent, though NBA insider Kevin O'Connor also claimed Green could leave the Bay Area if they didn't sign LeBron. That sounds unlikely, but he's an unrestricted free agent, so the possibility is technically there.
Whatever the case, it looks like the Warriors are taking a radical shift in their approach to trying to compete now while also keeping an eye on the future. They want to win now, regardless of whether that means parting ways with assets or young players, knowing that their championship window might not stay open for much longer. They will always have a chance with Stephen Curry there, but it's time they give him the supporting cast he needs.
