American Taylor Fritz scored a straight-sets win to join elite company in making it to a third consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinal, and that was just the beginning of the good news for the No. 6 seed at the All England Club on Monday.
Later, No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev, coming off a French Open title, played No. 13 Jiri Lehecka for a chance to face Fritz, but the final Round of 16 match was suspended due to curfew.
The delay gives Fritz extra rest over his next opponent, a potential key edge as he looks to advance to a second consecutive Wimbledon semifinal. Last year, he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.

According to ESPN, Fritz became just the fourth American man in the past 40 years to make three consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinals, joining Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras. OptaAce added he's one of three players in the men's draw to make the past three quarters, along with No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 7 Novak Djokovic, the only players remaining to have previously won the Grand Slam.

Per Tennis Abstract, Fritz's win over No. 10 Alexander Bublik — 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 — was only his second ever versus a top-10 seed at Wimbledon and first without dropping a set. In 2024, he defeated Zverev, that year's No. 4 seed, in a marathon fourth-round five-setter.
Zverev closed Monday up 2-0 in sets and tied at three games apiece in the third against Lehecka. He could make quick work and have a short day at the office on Tuesday, but the longer the match goes would benefit Fritz.
The world's No. 7-ranked pro has impressed this grass court season, reaching the finals at Stuttgart and Halle in the build-up to Wimbledon. He's playing well enough to reach the semis without the rest advantage, which only enhances his odds.
