Royals' All-Star Bobby Witt Jr. joins elite company with latest SB

Only five years into his career, Bobby Witt Jr. is building a resume that already places him among the all-time greats. And the Kansas City Royals' shortstop joined some elite company with his latest stolen base on Sunday.

Witt swiped his 30th stolen base of the season while going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in the Royals' 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies

Bobby Witt Jr. joined legendary company with his latest stolen base

The milestone placed Witt along side legends Rickey Henderson, Ichiro Suzuki and Vince Coleman as the only players to register at least 30 stolen bases in each of their first five seasons.

Witt has work to do to truly get to their level - Coleman reached 30 or more in seven-straight season, Suzuki in eight and Henderson, who still holds the all-time record for most in a career, did so in 15 in a row, but joining the group and being in position to try to match them is an impressive achievement.

Witt's 30 stolen bases before the All-Star break put him on a pace to set a new career-high. His single-season best is 49 from his sophomore season in 2023. He was caught stealing 15 times that season, making it the year he attempted the most stolen bases, too.

Last season, Witt had 38 steals and was caught nine times. But he has consistently shown he's far more than just a speedster on the base pads.

Witt Jr. has been one of the most complete players in baseball for five years

In fact, he's been one of the most complete players across all of baseball since making his debut in April, 2022.

Witt was voted as an All-Star starter (third career selection) due to his production through 84 games in 2026. He's hitting .290 with a .362 OBP and a .466 slugging percentage. He has 95 hits, 46 runs scored, 12 home runs and 36 RBI.

Witt, 26, has two 30+ homer seasons - he crushed 30 in 2023 and a then surpassed that mark with 32 the next season. He has 117 home runs, 409 RBI, a career .290 average, .342 OBP and a 6.1 bWAR in 710 MLB games to this point.

And for the statistics that will follow Witt throughout his career more than any other, he has 178 stolen bases out of 225 attempts.
