The Oklahoma Sooners are on the board with one of the better athletes in the 2027 recruiting class.
That would be three-star athlete Jaiden Fields, whom the Sooners are recruiting as both a receiver and a safety.
Fields, from Hutto, Texas, is ranked as the No. 41 athlete in the country. He's likely going to start his college career in Norman playing in the defensive backfield.
The Sooners are planning on utilizing his athletic abilities in different ways, though, and that was part of the reason he committed to Oklahoma.
Of course, he also connected with Brent Venables and safeties coach Brandon Hall.
“What excited me the most is working with Coach Venables and Coach Hall and the ability to play multiple positions in their defense to develop me for the next level,” Fields told Rivals regarding his commitment.
He chose the Sooners over Texas A&M, Stanford, SMU and TCU.

In 2025, as a junior for Hutto High School, Fields caught 79 passes for 1,262 yards and 19 touchdowns. On defense, he notched 44 tackles (two for loss) and two interceptions, with one returned for a pick-six. He also returned a punt for a touchdown, so he can truly do everything on the football field.
For Oklahoma, Fields is projected to play a role alongside 2027 safety recruits Bode Sparrow and Jaylen Scott. The Sooners needed long-term replenishments at safety and this 2027 trio is expected to bring a lot to the table for them.
"The Sooners have added three talented defensive backs with complementary skill sets who could each factor into the future of the position," writes 247Sports analyst Brody Lusk. "Sparrow projects as more of a traditional strong safety with excellent coverage ability, Scott profiles as a true free safety, and Fields gives Oklahoma the versatile roaming defender it was still looking to add. Together, they form a well-rounded trio."
Venables' 2027 class now has nearly 30 commitments and it is ranked No. 6 nationally.
