Heliot Ramos is exactly who the Phillies should target at the deadline

As one of the worst teams in the National League for a majority of the season, the San Francisco Giants (38-52) will be sellers at the Aug. 3 trade deadline. The Giants have a few players worth a contending team's attention, but outfielder Heliot Ramos is proving to be one of their best trade pieces.

Heliot Ramos is having a strong month of July

Since being activated off the injured list on June 28, after missing five weeks due to a right quad strain, Ramos has swung a hot bat and put on a power display.

In 22 at-bats in July, the former All-Star (2024) is batting .364 with a 1.000 slugging percentage and has mashed three home runs. Two of Ramos's home runs this month came in the Giants' 10-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays; Ramos went 5-for-5 and drove in half of the Giants' runs.

Ramos nearly had three home runs in the game. His triple on the second pitch of the game from right-hander Kevin Gausman turned into a Little League home run, with Ramos advancing on a throwing error by Blue Jays infielder Andrés Giménez.

Ramos's second home run of the game, a three-run shot to the opposite field (right field) left his manager, Tony Vitello, in "awe."

“We were in awe of the second home run,” manager Tony Vitello said to Maria Guardado of MLB.com. “It was almost like that one was separate than the first. You know what kind of power, especially in this stadium, he’s got going the other way. But that was kind of one that everybody was thunderstruck on. Anytime he does something positive, you’re excited and happy because he’s always happy.”

The Giants should capitalize on Heliot Ramos's success

Showing he's healthy and swinging a hot bat, Ramos could fetch a decent haul in a trade. In his final year before becoming arbitration-eligible, Ramos comes with three more seasons of control.

At 26, that's appealing to a contending team. Hence, the prospect and even big-league-ready haul required to trade for him.

A team like the Philadelphia Phillies, which needs a right-handed bat with some power, could be a suitor to acquire Ramos. However, given their weak farm system, the Phillies would need to be willing to part with prospects Aidan Miller or Gage Wood, or even someone like Andrew Painter, as a starting point to a package of players.

Philadelphia has dealt with a thin outfield rotation all season, which only worsened when Adolis Garcia was lost for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.

The Giants' focus should be on adding as much controllable pitching as possible, given their glut of infield prospects. Painter and/or Wood would still have at least six years of team control remaining.

The Phillies' World Series window is closing, and acquiring Ramos to add to their offense of Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Brandon Marsh could help push them past a team like the Los Angeles Dodgers.
