With LeBron James no longer in the building, the Los Angeles Lakers may not have an obligation to keep Bronny on the roster.
There were rumors about how James’ influence forced the Lakers’ hand to take his son in the second round of the NBA Draft, even though most scouts argued he would’ve benefited from staying in college.
Bronny hasn’t been much of a factor in his two years in the league, and while he’s shown some upside as a defensive specialist, he doesn’t bring that much to the table to justify a roster spot.
Considering that, the Lakers would be wise to offer him to whoever signs his father in free agency, with Trevor Lane of Lakers Nation claiming they wouldn’t even ask for much in return.
“Trading Bronny James to wherever (LeBron James) goes is not a difficult thing for the Los Angeles Lakers to do because his salary is so small. I think the best-case scenario, what we are talking about here is a second-round pick,” said Lane.
James and Bronny made NBA history by becoming the first father-son duo to share the court, but that was more of a testament to LeBron’s longevity than anything else.
Bronny played sparingly and didn’t do much with the opportunities he was given. He can still turn out to be a solid role player, but the Lakers could probably put that roster spot to better use, at least with players who fit their current timeline and can help them win now.
Of course, that wouldn’t do much to help Bronny’s already controversial reputation, but he’d probably have a better shot at taking the court with his father’s new team than by staying in Los Angeles.
