USMNT sends heartfelt letter after World Cup exit

Team USA had everybody hoping for a quarterfinal run at this year’s FIFA World Cup, but those dreams ended with a 4-1 loss to Belgium on Monday in Seattle, Washington.

Following another early exit, Team USA sent out a long statement on Tuesday. In the letter, they thanked the fans for “believing in this team.”

The letter also said that they would “learn from this.”

“We’ll learn from this. We’ll get better to compete with the world’s best. And we’ll keep doing the work because that’s what this team and this country expects from us.”

Dear America… Thank you for standing with us and for believing in this team. Thank you for believing in the future of soccer in this country.

The statement concluded by saying, “Country road, Take us home. We’ll see you there.”

Country Roads became Team USA’s theme song during this World Cup, and it played after the matches.

Team USA had everybody with high hopes after a strong start with two victories to begin the World Cup. The Americans then lost to Turkey in the final game of group play and went on to defeat Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Knockout stage.

Monday’s game started off badly as Belgium scored in the opening minutes, and things never recovered for the Americans.

Now, they will wait until 2030 to get another chance at getting out of the Round of 16.
