Before Monday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays, the New York Yankees had finished a game with 17 offensive strikeouts just nine times in their franchise history.
Fast forward through two games of the series, and that number has risen not once, but twice.
After mustering just three hits and striking out 17 times in Monday's win, the contact got much better in terms of hits, but not in terms of swing and miss on Tuesday.
The Yankees collected 11 hits but also struck out 17 more times in Tuesday's loss. Along with that, New York struck out 12 times through five innings against Rays starter Ian Seymour, the first time in franchise history that one pitcher has collected 12 strikeouts through five innings against the Yankees.
Yankees have struck out 17 times in one nine-inning game 11 times in franchise history. One of those games was last night and another was tonight. This is the first season in franchise history they've done it three times in one season pic.twitter.com/xhKWczc06F

New York hasn't been the same since losing its two mashers in the middle of the order, and there is no timetable for either to return. Stanton has suffered multiple setbacks during rehab, and there is no indication that Judge is anywhere close to a return to action.
In a stretch with the Yankees having lost nine of their last 11 games, a lineup shakeup may be in order. New York is scheduled to face left-hander Shane McClanahan on Wednesday, meaning an Amed Rosario or Jose Caballero in the leadoff spot may be what's needed to ignite a spark.
