Denny Hamlin may have had to settle for third at Chicagoland Speedway because he was "too nonchalant," but no driver has been more consistent than him this season.
Sure, Ryan Blaney has more top-10s (14), but Hamlin has four wins — five if you include his All-Star Race win at Dover — and 10 top-fives. That type of consistency has helped Hamlin turn a 129-point deficit to Tyler Reddick in the standings into a 44-point lead with seven regular-season races remaining.
While multiple issues have contributed to Reddick's rough stretch of four finishes of 25th or worse in the last five races, Hamlin has put himself on an exclusive list through 19 races.
Hamlin has completed all but two laps this season. According to NASCAR Insights, this is the ninth time in NASCAR Cup Series history that a driver has completed all but two (or fewer) laps in the first 19 races.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kurt Busch are the only drivers to complete every lap in the first 19 races, while Chase Elliott (2024-25) and Matt Kenseth completed all but one lap.
Had it not been for the two laps that Hamlin lost in the season-opening Daytona 500, he would join Earnhardt Jr. and Busch atop the list. That 31st-place finish was one of only two results outside the top 20 for Hamlin, with the other being a 26th at Sonoma after he was spun while running inside the top 10.
Unfortunately for Hamlin, Sunday's race at Atlanta's EchoPark Speedway (7 p.m. ET, TNT, truTV, HBO Max, PRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) could be where he gives some points back.
Although he was a solid 13th there earlier this season, Hamlin only has two top-10s at EchoPark Speedway since its reconfiguration ahead of the 2022 season, a stretch that has also included five finishes outside the top 20.
Hamlin is no stranger to success on drafting-style tracks with five combined wins at Daytona and Talladega. However, that performance has not exactly translated to the Hampton, Georgia, facility, which has produced more handling issues and created additional passing opportunities than its drafting counterparts.
With the high likelihood of the "Big One" collecting several drivers in Sunday's race, it would be more of a surprise if Hamlin's run of lead-lap finishes continues. On the flip side, Reddick was the victor at EchoPark Speedway earlier this season, making it a realistic possibility that the tide finally turns in his favor.
Regardless, what Hamlin continues to accomplish this late in his career is nothing short of amazing. However, don't be surprised if he is not much of a factor at EchoPark Speedway, a track that has not been one of his best lately.
