New alarming update about potential Tyreek Hill NFL return emerges

Ever since the Miami Dolphins parted ways with wide receiver Tyreek Hill this past February, some have attempted to link him with teams in need of help at the position. 

During a recent Bleacher Report live stream, NFL insider James Palmer suggested that fans may not see Hill in action anytime soon. 

"Wishful thinking" Tyreek Hill will play in 2026?

"There still is, to my understanding, no guarantee that Tyreek Hill plays in 2026," Palmer said, per Jose Esquer of Heavy. "I think it’s wishful thinking." 

Over what became his final four games as a member of the Dolphins last season, Hill recorded 21 receptions for 265 yards and a single touchdown. However, his campaign shockingly came to an end when he dislocated his left knee and tore multiple ligaments, including his ACL, on Sept. 29, 2025. 

Hill turned 32 years old in March of this year, so it was fair to wonder if age had at least somewhat slowed him down even before he suffered the type of setback that can threaten and even end a playing career. While it was previously thought that the Kansas City Chiefs could embrace a reunion with Hill, there has never been any real sign that he has been on Kansas City's radar. Hill played for the Chiefs from 2016 until he was traded to the Dolphins following the 2021 season.

Tyreek Hill may have this option for playing in the future

Fellow wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a torn ACL while playing for the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI in February 2022. Beckham spent the entire 2022 season recovering from that setback, but he later played for the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. 

It's currently unclear if Hill would be interested in taking a "gap year" out of the league to try to get right for the summer of 2027. While one would think that a team that loses a receiver to an injury during the upcoming season could bring Hill in for a workout later this fall, it sounds like there's a realistic chance he will remain a free agent for the foreseeable future.
