In his 23 years in the NBA, LeBron James has amassed $581,375,548 in playing salary, according to Spotrac.
That includes nearly $53 million in his final year with the Los Angeles Lakers, and while taxes and fees take a big chunk of that money, he's set for life.
That doesn't mean he won't want to make another big buck before riding into the sunset. Notably, that spells trouble for the Golden State Warriors.
According to ESPN salary cap expert Bobby Marks, the Warriors' best potential offer for James is quite underwhelming.
“Barring trading Moses Moody’s $12.5 million contract, Golden State has the $3.9 million veterans exception available to offer James,” Marks wrote. “A Moody trade would put the Warriors $38 million below the first apron hard cap. If Draymond Green signed in the $20 million to $22 million range, the Warriors would then have the flexibility to sign players to the veterans minimum and still offer $6 million to James.”
Of course, James could play for free, and he'd still have more than enough wealth to go generations without working a single day, so money shouldn't be an issue for him at this point in his career.
Then again, this might just be another roadblock in the Warriors' pursuit of James, which is looking more unlikely by the day.
The Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers are also keeping tabs on the future Hall of Famer.
James will reportedly prioritize basketball happiness over money. That said, it's still hard to imagine him playing for "just" $3 million, not even in his final season.
