
Ford showed up in Atlanta needing a big weekend and got off to a fast start.
Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney won the pole for Sunday's Quaker State 400, turning a lap of 30.815 seconds/179.912 miles per hour around the 1.5-mile Hampton, Georgia, track. Blaney beat his Penske teammate, Joey Logano, for the pole by 0.036 seconds.
The pole is the second of the season for Blaney, who also snagged the top spot at Bristol in April. It's the 19th pole of his Cup career.
Logano will join Blaney on the front row, with defending Cup Series champion Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon and Daniel Suarez rounding out the top five. Alex Bowman, defending winner Chase Elliott, Austin Cindric, Ross Chastain and Brad Keselowski completed the top 10.
Other notable qualifying efforts include Shane van Gisbergen in 12th, Carson Hocevar in 14th, Chicagoland winner Chase Briscoe in 20th, Bubba Wallace in 22nd and February Atlanta winner Tyler Reddick in 31st.
Cup Series points leader Denny Hamlin, who enters Sunday with a 44-point advantage over Reddick, will start 28th, with Austin Hill starting 30th.
BJ McLeod (37th) was the slowest of the 37 drivers to take time, turning a lap of 31.743 seconds. Chad Finchum did not make a qualifying lap and will start last (38th) on Sunday.
Sunday's Quaker State 400 will go green shortly after 7 p.m. ET, with coverage on TNT, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, though inclement weather is possible and could delay the race.
