It was another busy week around the NFL as the Seattle Seahawks were sold for a record price, ESPN unveiled its ranking of the top 10 players at each position and storylines are aplenty with training camp set to begin for a pair of NFC West rivals.
Here is what you should know around the league.
On Saturday, the defending Super Bowl champions were sold for a reported $9.612B to an ownership group led by the family of Vinod Khosla, who was also a limited partner of Seattle's NFC West rival, the San Francisco 49ers.
That is by far the most a franchise has ever sold for, surpassing the Denver Broncos in 2022 and the Washington Commanders in 2023, who were most recently sold for $4.65B and $6.05B, respectively.
Led by the league's best defense (16.9 PPG), the Seahawks were on top of the NFL world in head coach Mike Macdonald's second season on the sidelines and a season defined by quarterback Sam Darnold's redemption. Now they can add a record-setting price to their second Super Bowl title.
ESPN's seventh edition of its annual player rankings at each position was released on Monday. While most of the rankings made sense, the QB position featured some curious decisions.
Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams was ranked 10th on the list, ahead of Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles) and Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers). Votes consisted of coaches, executives and scouts, and one veteran defensive coach compared Williams' playmaking ability to three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes.
After all, Williams led the league in fourth-quarter comebacks (six) and was tied with Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young for the second-most game-winning drives (six). However, he also completed just 58.1% of his passes, putting him 32nd out of 33 eligible QBs and even leading one voter to exclude him from the top 10 altogether.
Speaking of being left out of the top 10, Darnold was just an honorable mention despite leading the Seahawks to Super Bowl glory in his first season with the franchise. While you can at least make the argument that Williams deserves a spot in the top 10, Darnold was clearly disrespected after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
While some teams have another week, and even two weeks, until training camp officially gets underway and the pads come off, rookies are set to report for the Seahawks on Friday and the 49ers on Saturday to get things started.
Among the biggest storylines to monitor include the QB battles for the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns, how Mahomes responds to his ACL injury and if Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud can benefit from the offseason upgrades up front and in the backfield.
Training camp also puts pressure on several players around the league to either impress enough to secure a roster spot or get cut before the season gets underway. Those players range from wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. (Buffalo Bills), QB Mason Rudolph (Pittsburgh Steelers) and CB Kelee Ringo (Eagles) to WR Rashee Rice (Chiefs) and RB Alvin Kamara (New Orleans Saints).
A lot of position battles and uncertain situations will start to take care of themselves as teams begin reporting to training camp, which is now just days away for Seahawks and 49ers rookies.
